Apophis

Even though defeated nightly, the
serpent revives
each time to threaten the world again.
Desirous of proximity
to a Sun god,
he brings no life
or light—naught but
destruction, sucking
everything, like a
black hole, into undifferentiated chaos.

But the cognoscenti know

He is but wax,
Malleable and quickly consumed.
