Opposition

Early in month of Elul in 2026 (Jewish year 5786)—a time of reflection and spiritual preparation for the renewal performed during the imminent High Holidays; a shift in the Jewish calendar, in the local seasons, and in day-to-day secular schedules—I threw the I Ching with the question, “How shall I balance the efforts I put into my various interests in creative pursuits, religious studies, and volunteering?” The resulting hexagram was K'uei, rendered as “Opposition” by an English retranslation of Richard Wilhelm’s classic German translation of the I Ching.
